  • Can a pediatrician diagnose Tourettes?

Our pediatrician is the one who diagnosed our son with Tourette's. Since then we've received comments asking, "Well what tests did they do" "Did he see a neurologist?"

Our pediatrician diagnosed it based on the symptoms and history. There was no testing or neurologist. Do we really need to request more? He went over a lot of stuff with us.

No, not unless you have reason to doubt the diagnosis. The diagnosis is made based on the symptoms along with ruling out other possibilities. There are no psychological tests and, as far as I know, no neurological tests that can definitively diagnose TS or provide unique evidence which is pathognomonic for TS.
