  • Free Webinar: Tourette Syndrome & OCD

On June 12, 2015 the Tourette Association-CDC (U.S.) partnership joined forces with the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) to offer a free two-part webinar Tics, Tourette's and OCD: A Clinical Update of Diagnosis and Treatment geared towards their clinical audiences.

The first module Diagnosing TS and OCD was presented by John Piacentini, PhD, ABPP, Professor of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the UCLA School of Medicine and Director of the Child OCD Anxiety and Tic Disorders Program at the UCLA Semel Institute.

Because of the complexity of TS and OCD, parsing the symptoms and making differential diagnoses can be challenging for clinicians. Dr. Piacentini provided an overview of diagnosis of the two disorders, as well as the course and differential diagnosis for TS and OCD.

The second module Behavioral Approaches for Treating TS and OCD was presented by Sabine Wilhelm, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Director of OCD and Related Disorders Program at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Behavioral therapies for treating TS and OCD are supported by strong evidenced-based science and are often recommended for patients with TS or OCD. Dr. Wilhelm discussed the research supporting Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the structure and elements of each treatment.

The webinar is now available for public viewing on the TAA website, HERE

The slide sets are also available for download/print.

The International OCD Foundation has a wealth of information and resources about OCD for clinicians and the general public on their website.
