  • Clondine Doesn't Seem to Work Anymore

My daugther is 9 and has been on Clonidine for tics for one year. Her dosage has been increased two times, most recently about 2 or 3 months ago. There was a period of 3 months that she wasn't ticcing at all last spring. But now she's been since early summer. Lately she's cracking her knickles/wringing her hands nonstop and today has started up with blinking and grimacing again. This has been so hard. I hate to see her doing this and worry so much about kids noticing. She holds them in sometimes but not always of course. I want to put her on a new med. I want to try supplements. We've tried gluten free and I don't think it made it big difference at all. Same with no sugar and dairy. I am desperate for help. Thanks for any advice or words of encouragement. This is so hard.

Hi, Teacherkse, glad you're here. Sorry to hear about your daughter's situation, but you've come to the right place to get help and advice. I'm not familiar with medications for TS, but others here are, and it seems that quite a few people are talking about medications just lately.

Have you heard about a relatively new behavioral therapy for tics called Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT)? Lots of people with Tourette have benefitted from it; maybe it can help your daughter, too.

You can read about it here:
