  • Tourette Canada Announces CBIT Training for Clinicians

    February 1, 2017

    To All Healthcare Professionals
Please circulate, post this information for the benefit of your colleagues, practitioners in your community who are interested interested in Tourette Syndrome (PDF versions of media release and poster attached for printing)

Tourette Canada is preparing for the first of several training sessions in Comprehensive Behavior Intervention for Tics (CBIT) to take place in Ottawa, at the Royal Ottawa Hospital on May 6-7, 2017.

Our professor will be Dr. Douglas Woods PhD. Dr. Woods is Co-Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the Tourette Association of America (TAA) and is also the lead investigator for several clinical trials of the CBIT technique. Dr. Woods heads the Behavior Training Institute (BTI) of TAA, and, in that capacity, will be assisting Tourette Canada to establish its own Behavior Training Service for healthcare professionals.

Relevant details regarding enrollment, accommodations, and cost are contained in the attached PDF poster. The first training workshop is scheduled for May 6 & 7, 2017 at the Royal Ottawa Hospital, 1145 Carling Ave., Ottawa, Ontario.

During the sessions in Ottawa, Dr. Woods will be supported by Canadian facilitators James Brazeau CPsych, Kim Edwards CPsych and Mariève Hurtubise CPsych.

In the Ottawa training session in May and the ensuing one-on-one consultations with an expert, the attendees will learn how to use CBIT to treat their Tourette patients using non-medication behavioral strategies to help individuals diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome to manage tic symptoms using CBT and HRT techniques modified for a Tourette diagnosis.

For your information, this online archive contains a number of relevant articles and other material in connection to CBIT, including the published clinical trials.

Can you help publicize the availability of this CBIT training workshop among your colleagues and/or print and post the attached poster in your clinical environment to raise awareness of the course?
