Hello! This is my first time here...

I have Tourette's, although I have yet to be diagnosed by anyone qualified to do so. I'm quite certain of what it is, though - my little brother was diagnosed several years ago and my tics seem to fit the bill.

    I'm a 21-year-old full-time Webmaster. I also own a company with my fianc?e.

I think recent stress in my life has been increasing my symptoms. Recently, my TS has been affecting me at work, and I've just developed my first-ever self-harming tic. I've never considered any treatment before, but I'm going to consult my doctor later this week.

Anyways, that's me. Nice to meet you!

Welcome to the TS Forum, and thank you for sharing your story. As you know, there is no diagnostic test like a blood test at this time for TS. A diagnosis is made by observation.

Unfortunately not all physicians have had sufficient training or experience with TS to make a definitive diagnosis, so if your Family Physician is uncertain, as to have a referral to a specialist who is known to have experience with TS.

There are TS clinics in some parts of Canada, so if you need more info, check out the list of Affiliates and Chapters of TSFC, where they may direct you to some local resources.

Hope you will make the TS Forum a regular part of your online activities.

Feel free to share comments you might have with your professional web experience.

    Regards,

My little brother has a much more obvious case of Tourette's, as well as ADHD, so my family's physician has been caught-up on the subject. I do plan to see a specialist when I get a chance.

My mother and brother are already involved with our local TSFC chapter, and I plan to be getting involved myself.

With regards to these forums, my only advice is to upgrade your version of phpBB to the latest (or at least run regular backups). I recently had someone hack into my forums using a known security hole in phpBB. There was no reason for it - nobody I knew - just someone trying to show off their malicious skills. All posts were deleted. :\ Some of these wannabe hackers will search the Web for vulnerable forums, so any board is a potential target.

But yes, I do plan to return here. ;)

    Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks for the good advice on keeping the software updated and backed up. I believe the last upgrade of the Forum software contained some important security upgrades.

Glad to hear about your connection to TSFC. Please let the folks at your local Chapter know about the Board. We are eager to have members who will share their stories and to answer questions from new members becoming acquainted with TS.

    Default Saw my doctor.

Well I just saw my family doctor about my situation. She's sending me to a specialist, but she's fairly confident that I'll be diagnosed with TS, OCD and ADD, based on observation and on everything I told her. I've been prescribed clonidine for now.
