    Default Medical Marijuana and TS+ OCD

    8) Hey All
    I havent posted on the forum for awhile. Been reading all the posts over the last couple of months thou and doin alot of research on other sites. Its amazing how much info there is regarding kannabis and TS+. I've used marijuana MJ for over twenty yrs to control my TS+ OCD. If I start to curse(which could last for hours) I'll take some kannabis and the bad thoughts and coprolalia stops. It also helps me with other aspects relating to ts such as rage, concentration difficulties and depression.

    I dont promote MJ as the cure all but it has really helped me. My doctor prescribed kannabis to me a few yrs ago so I feel much more comfortable taking my medication without the fear of the law. I'm also applying to the federal government so I can legally grow my own.

    I would really like to hear from anyone else with TS+ OCD etc who has or is using mj to control their symptoms. What were yur experiences, good or bad, and did it work.

    Thanx :lol:

    Hi there,

    How much and how often do you need to smoke MJ before you see a reduction in your tics? How long does the effect last and if you are employed, does it affect your job performance? You are fortunate that you have a doctor who prescribed it for you and lucky to live in a country that understands the medical benefit that can be derived from cannibis. The US is skating backward in that regard. My son is on 8 different meds and they aren't helping his tics at all. They do give him some relief from his OCD, anxiety, and ADHD.

    Before adopting non traditional therapies, one should determine the scientific validity of a proposed therapy. Therapies and procedures which are grounded in science must pass the scrutiny of reproducible scientifically designed studies. These studies are then peer reviewed and published in a recognized scientific medium.

    That said, here is the position of the American Medical Association (AMA) on the medical use of marijuana:

    The AMA calls for further adequate and well-controlled studies of marijuana and related cannabinoids in patients who have serious conditions for which preclinical, anecdotal, or controlled evidence suggests possible efficacy and the application of such results to the understanding and treatment of disease.

    Here is the position of Health Canada:

    Where does Canada stand on the issue of medical use of marijuana?

    On July 30, 2001, Health Canada implemented the Marijuana Medical Access Regulations, which clearly define the circumstances and the manner in which access to marijuana for medical purposes will be permitted. The Regulations contain three main components: Authorizations to possess dried marijuana; licenses to produce marijuana, which include Personal-Use Production Licenses and Designated Person Production Licenses; and access to supply of marijuana seeds or dried marijuana.

    Does this legislation mean that marijuana is a legal substance?

    No. Marijuana is categorized as a controlled substance. It is not legal to grow or possess marijuana except with legal permission by Health Canada. The Marijuana Medical Access Regulations allow access to marijuana to people who are suffering from grave and debilitating illnesses. It is important to note that the Regulations deal exclusively with the medical use of marijuana. They do not address the issue of legalizing marijuana.

    Who is eligible to obtain an authorization to possess marijuana?

    The regulations outline two categories of people who can apply to possess marijuana for medical purposes.

    Category 1:

    This category is comprised of any symptoms treated within the context of providing compassionate end-of-life care; or the symptoms associated with the specified medical conditions listed in the schedule to the Regulations, namely:

    Severe pain and/or persistent muscle spasms from multiple sclerosis;
    Severe pain and/or persistent muscle spasms from a spinal cord injury;
    Severe pain and/or persistent muscle spasms from spinal cord disease;
    Severe pain, cachexia, anorexia, weight loss, and/or severe nausea from cancer;
    Severe pain, cachexia, anorexia, weight loss, and/or severe nausea from HIV/AIDS infection;
    Severe pain from severe forms of arthritis; or
    Seizures from epilepsy.
    Applicants must provide a declaration from a medical practitioner to support their application.

    Category 2:

    This category is for applicants who have debilitating symptom (s) of medical condition (s), other than those described in Category 1. Under Category 2, persons with debilitating symptoms can apply to obtain an Authorization to Possess dried marijuana for medical purposes, if a specialist confirms the diagnosis and that conventional treatments have failed or judged inappropriate to relieve symptoms of the medical condition. While an assessment of the applicant?s case by a specialist is required, the treating physician, whether or not a specialist, can sign the medical declaration.

    Default Medical Marijuana and TS+ OCD

    Hi Monicafaye

    Marijuana has been used traditionally for thousands of yrs as a medicine. When my symptoms start I usually smooke one small joint and this will stop the cursing and bad thoughts. If I get into a rage one joint will usually make me feel good but rarly I'll need two. I can even prevent the symptoms if I feel them coming on b4 they start.

    My TS+ OCD is so bad I collect a disability pension but when I did work the mj helps by stopping my TS+ but sometimes it made me fell a bit tired but otherwise didnt interfere with work. I'm starting a part time job this weekend and I'll let u know how it goes. My first job in four yrs.

    Has anyone heard of marijuana triggering "depersonalization and derealization disorder"? Sufferers describe frightening experiences of not being within one's own body or of being in immediate danger or separating from reality. Also a sense of detachment from all environments, fogginess and a sense everything is a dream. I've heard that people suffer with this for years., even though cognitive functioning remains intact. I think I read there is also a connection between these disorders to ocd and anxiety disorders. I've looked at some forums, where the sufferers trace the onset to a joint. Pretty scary stuff. Has anyone heard of this?

    Been a long time, good to see you again. So how long does one use of MJ work for? My persciption meds usually worked for 8 or 9 hours.
    The other day at a local grocery store, I saw a rack with books on it and one of them said, "pregancy for dummies"............

    Its really hard to say how long one joint works for. Since it seems to stop a current outburst of ts-ocd, for me, I'd say it lasts until the next outburst comes along which is usually pretty random.

    You know if u hold yur tiks in eventually u have to let them out right? And sometimes the tiks come out even worse if u hold them in. If I'm holdin in my tiks and I go smooke a joint the tiks will just dissapate and I wont have to release them. This will last until my ts-ocd is triggered again at another time.

    Maria, some of the things u mentioned seem to be pretty prevailent among "normal" people, just kiddin dont mind me I have a warped sense of humor :twisted: . Marijuana isnt perfect but for me its the best thing I've found. I've used it for over 20 yrs and have been researching it for almost as long and havent come across anythin u mentioned. Alot of terrifying things have been said of it over the yrs in the 1930's newspapers and politicians were sayin that it could cause men to go into violent rages of rape and murder and today some are tryin to say it causes psychosis. At least we can have an open dialogue here where everyone can have their opinion as kannabis has been shown to be beneficial to people with ts-ocd.

    Scott, I respect your opinion and if you've found something that works for you , great. I'm just wondering, because my 14 year old has tried it (peer pressure) having started high school and ever since the last joint(2 weeks ago) he has been feeling strange. He first described it as feeling like he was not real-he would check his hands to see if he existed. Things around him felt dream-like. But to make this more confusing, it started with a thought-HOW CAN LIFE BE?- once he starts thinking this he can't get past this thought. He says it makes him feel dizzy,and the more he tries to focus on something else the more he gets stuck on the question, and things start feeling unreal to him. I'm wondering if that last joint triggered something and now he knows how to retrigger it without really wanting to. As if he has become obsessed with this-how can life be?- Does this make any sense? If it doesn't I apolagize. I know he has become stuck on other things in the past, but this seems to be causing a lot of distress.

    It sound to me that something else was in that besides MJ. If your teenager comes home and is high (you obviously should know) but says he does not feel right, go get some blood work right away. Other drugs out there can cause some of the responses you described and can be laced on the paper and last or come back after the experience.

    I realize all of this is off topic of TS but no one will crucify the teen if you bring him in for testing.

    We did on the eldest one evening and he had more then MJ in his system.

    Personally, I know people that use it for pain and other medical issues.

    One of my eldest brothers has lost so many brain cells that he stood and argued with me over his age. I told him to pull out his drivers license and see for himself. I was right, he was wrong. He has always been four years older. :lol:
    It has effected his work performance, keeping jobs and home. He makes six figures with no effort, but as time rolls on fewer people put up with his behavior. MJ effects everyone individually.

    If it works for Scott, I am so glad that he found something that does. You just have to weight the balance for yourself in a case like that and do what works best for you.
